Claude Berlie-Caillat
Born in 1952 in Chambéry, Claude Berlie-Caillat discovered ceramics during an initiatory trip to India, fascinated by the simplicity and power of the potter's gesture. Trained under masters such as René Chaix and Jean Girel, he opened his first studio in Savoie before moving to Réunion in 1982.
On the island, he developed a unique approach based on basalt, a volcanic material that he explored in fusion with glass and enamel. In 1993, he co-founded Art Sud in Saint-Joseph, a center dedicated to the arts of fire, transmission, and contemporary creation.
Claude Berlie-Caillat has pursued a sensitive and instinctive empirical work for over 30 years, rooted in the region and open to international exchange.
The Exhibition
This exhibition, designed as a “turnkey” project in collaboration with artist-designer Rémy Thélier, is based on a scenographic system made entirely of stainless steel. More than simple frames or supports, the structures serve simultaneously as transport crates, handling elements, and exhibition modules.
The support becomes an artwork in itself, just as the artwork engages in dialogue with it. Each piece used for transport is repurposed for the scenography, eliminating any need for storage. The setup was conceived to amplify the tension evoked by the exhibition’s title: “Humanoid, are we all becoming androids?”, through both its materiality and its shapes.
All pieces presented in this exhibition are available for sale or long-term rental. For any request regarding information, availability, or pricing, please contact the artist.
